Thoughts: Michael Vick is Back…

Almost. He signed a two-year deal today with the Philadelphia Eagles. He won’t be allowed to play until Week 6 or so but he can practice with the team and play in the preseason I believe.

I’m very happy for Vick; he definitely deserved a second chance. He made a mistake, but after all he did only hurt/kill an animal or two. If he stays on the right path from now on, with help from former Colts coach Tony Dungy and his new coach Andy Reid, he should be able to enjoy football once again.

Donte Stallworth, on the other hand, killed an innocent man while driving under the influence. He served 24 out of 30 days in jail and is now under house arrest. (Vick served over a year for dog-fighting; why does that not make sense??) Stallworth was suspended for the entire 2009 season by the NFL.

You’re right that Stallworth did not serve a long enough sentence for what he did but there really is no excuse for what Vick did either. I agree with you that Vick deserves a second chance, like all of us, but i disagree with your assertion that “after all he did only hurt/kill an animal or two”. “After all” does not adequately describe in detail what he did to these poor defenseless animals. I believe his punishment sufficed for his actions. But his actions cannot be defended by those who claim that it was “just a dog”. I am not a fervent dog-lover nor a vehement supporter of animal activism but human nature tells me that this crime is introvertible and heinous.

Point taken M.r Fernandez. “After all” was not the best term. I was trying to say that what Vick did was definitely wrong, but he did not deserve anywhere near 2 years in jail. He should have been punished less severely or in a different way. I.E. less jailtime but more community service to make up for his crimes. Stallworth should be in jail for at least 20 years if not more. He drove while drunk and high and killed someone. There’s no ecuse for that.
